Have you ever spent months or years without
family as a student?. Either you deny or
say yes but it will amaze you how students survive without family in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad is the second largest city of Sindh. Its plenty population consists of students owing to educational facilities. These students belong from different cities, towns, and villages and different social classes.
A student worried about career, simple look and humble to help the colleagues with these signs almost you might guess a student whose family is far away and he is living in a hostel or self dependently.
Students with rich financial background converge towards luxurious and expensive hostels, where they get everything prepared. On the contrary students from middle class go towards hostels with sustainable fees.
There is also a category of students who belong to financially underprivileged and poor families. It is interesting how they manage all essential needs. They get a house, rooms or flat on rent, three, four or more collectively. They shift in it, and buy the groceries and other essential commodities per month. They cook food, wash and press the clothes even clean the rooms themselves, but sometimes they hire a cook and washman in case of financial sustainability. They choose a leader among the members who manage and run the entire system. Now a days students from the middle class are also living in such a way.
Students who spend such a life regard that they learn, understand the responsibility and enjoy the indepence. A student namely Bilawal Laghari currently teaching in a private school. He has spent 6 years of his life self dependently. Answering the questions he said “I learned many things from this way of spending life and that's all has made me a responsible person, because here you have to do everything yourself.
The thing that makes it different from hostel and family life is that here no restrictions are imposed on you, like; attending late night programs, and other outings”. Sometimes this way creates hurdles and problems pertaining to time but it is a good way for poor students. As Laghari further added ”it is too difficult to manage the time owing to numerous responsibilities, but it is a splendid way for poor students who could not afford expensive fees of hostiles”.
The private hostels which is established to earn money. They provide food and services but sometimes they use cheap accomodation which causes unhygienic health issues for students. Students who live on their own choose the members with whom they want to live but in hostels strangers might be your room mates.
Asad Ali has spent one year in a private hostel but now living self dependently. Sharing his experience about hostel life he said “ some times mess cook is not responsible person who do not clean pots properly which may create unhygienic conditions for students and it also matters what kind of your room mates are, because their study time, behavior and sincerity affects a lot on you.”
Hostels help to make new friends, saves the leisure time but not provide the food what you want. As Ali further added “I made friends in hostel and hostels help to save leisure time that is hard to save in self dependent life and in hostel lunch or dinner is cooked according to their given table but in self dependent you are free to cook what you want to eat”.
Therefore, this is how students survive without family in Hyderabad. All these students have hope there will be a spring of pleasure and comfort after autumn of hurdles and problems.
