Thatta the
city of illiteracy, were people are so illiterate that they even don’t know
what is good for their health and what is not.
When someone
enters at thatta city they notice the walls and roads are painted with red
shade and that red color is not any red paint but that is Gutkka spit that
people through in every corner.
Now a day’s
people of thatta are famous because of Gutkka addiction. The consumer of Gutkka
are not only men, women but also children.
The Human
Support Association Thatta and Sindh Peace Development started fight against
these Gutkka, and other drugs, seminars, marches awareness campaign, instead of
that no improvement yet achieved.
Majority of
thatta residence are so addict of Gutkka that they can compromise their life,
because of Gutkka, and they start visiting hospitals for their treatment.
After this
increment in Gutkka consumers, court orders to stop all these drugs selling,
instead of that administration did not take any notice, Gutkka, Liquor, Mava,
Chars, handmade liquor, are common here, and they are openly on selling
purpose, due to which every day 200 people face tooth and mouth disease.
In district
Thatta thousands of people are victims of mouth cancer, Thatta, Sakro,
Ketibandar, Gora Bari, War, Jumpir, and many other areas are effected with this
deadly Gutkka, people of these areas are effected with mouth cancer where men,
women but children of the age who are so small that they don’t walk.
According to
my personal interaction with doctors I got to know that 18000 people are
effected by Gutkka and facing disease like mouth cancer, and 13000 has already
died.
Doctors of
Thatta district said in 2019 the number of mouth cancer patient were 1057,
where women and children were included, they further said still there are many
other patients who are not even in our records or their disease is not still
recognized.
The court
order that the person who will sell Gutkka or make Gutkka will be punished for
minimum six years and he/she will pay fine of two lacs, instead of the order
there is no implementations/improvements in thatta district.
Thatta
residence are so much addicted that now Gutkka is not only sold in shops but
now people sell them at their house also, if this Gutkka consumers will not stops
consuming than thatta will be divested.
According to
patient by name Anai Norhi she was addicted of Gutkka and her mouth cancer was
diagnosed when she was 40 and she further told her father was also addicted of
Gutkka and lot his life because of mouth cancer, another patient by name Amina
was also Gutkka addict due to this addiction the amount of blood in her body
was less, she was continuously losing her baby in her womb , during her fourth
miscarriage she was diagnosed with cancer and according to doctors and her
family she was eating Gutkka from her childhood,
Further patient Ghulam Shabir
whose age is 40 years and his tongue is effected and doctors operated his
tongue and cut that part but still he is facing the cancer his family members
said he was in taking Gutkka Pan from 20 years and his brother mentioned that
he is only member of family who earns but now he is hospitalized, another
patient by name M.Qadeer he is also effected with mouth cancer his cancer was
diagnosed one and half year ago , at first he had gum issue which than
converted as cancer.
There is
deficiency of legislation by the Sindh Assembly in this aspects, despite this
fact hat high court of Sindh issued direction to Sindh government for immediate
legislation in the respect but same is still in the pipeline, furthermore only
legislation is not necessary but its implementation, in its time spirit is also
required. Administration and Police can play vital role fr curbing the Gutkka
addiction with all both two steps, there is third step public awareness in this
respect is also necessary with the help of public, we can achieve our goal to
face this disease of mouth cancer.
