Pakistan

The word Transgender itself have no any
identification, it is just a tag for those people whose gender is not
recognized in their birth sex. We can simply define as a person whose sense of
personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.
We are
living in era of 21st century where everybody is so much educated
but still they are so cruel that they always degrade or discourage this gender.
As we are
aware from the fact that Pakistan is second largest Islamic state in this
entire world, but instead of that we found from electronic and print media
transgender are being ignored by our government and local society, Many NGOs
(NON GOVERMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS) are also ignoring transgender. We have founded,
that in Pakistan the transgender are ignored everywhere in life like in
education, government jobs health law and even security for their precious
life.
In 2013,
Supreme Court passes bill where rights of transgender was given but they are
still not implemented in community.
Not only the
society but their family members are not accepting them as their family member.
The very
first time transgender population was documented in Pakistan was in 2017,
estimated their number to be over 10,000 as per these counts transgender cover
0.005% of total population, instead of the less population they are facing many
problems.
According to
Dr Randi Kaufam New York based Psychologist “the high rates of suicide attempts
and self-harm often stem from being rejected or not being supported, moreover,
the lives of Trans people are marked with poverty, harassment, other issues”.
In Pakistan
status of transgender is very low, and deprived of their guarded status. People
of our society are vituperative/abusive language and refer to them as “hijra”.
Transgender
are violated as they are given due respect in our society. Many of transgender
fate victim to sexual harassment, recently a school was inaugurated by NGO
where Tran’s child can get education but they are working in small scale.
Mostly
people face discrimination while searching for job and compelled to beg, dance
or work, prostitutes in order to earn money, usually they are also deprived to
the right to healthcare.
In June
2016, Alisha a 23 year old transgender activist died as a result of not
receiving medical treatment on live, the staff was unable to decide whether to
admit her in the male and female ward and let her die in the hospital.
But the
status of transgender people is improving gradually, and the “Transgender
persons Bills 2017” has brought a ray of hope to the community, following bill
I aimed at reducing many basic issues that they are facing. According to given
bill, transgender will be constructed by the government, they will be given the
facility of loan to start small businesses. The biggest changes in history for
the first time, Pakistani news channel hired newsreader who was transgender.
This anchor, by name Marvia Malik, was graduated in journalism and told the BBC
she was moved to tears when she was offered the job, she further said she hoped
her work would help to improve Pakistan’s gender community.
Furthermore,
in last month, Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar announced that he
would provide jobs to two transgender in the Supreme Courts of Pakistan. For
vey first time Pakistan’s Supreme courts will give rights in Muslim majority
country. Those efforts must work on border scale to pressure their identity
laws and policies must be implemented, so they can freely live peaceful and
respectable life,
Organizations
working for transgender in Pakistan are Supreme Court of Pakistan, Blue Viens,
NADRA, Parliament of Pakistan, Connect of Islamic foundation and Aurat
Foundation.
Transgender
are also known as “Third” gender, consider as abomination by society, they are
considered as degenerated treated as if they are not human.
NADRA
created a third gender in their data in 2012 to accommodate the transgender. I
believe government should ensure safety of wellbeing of transgender of
Pakistan.
In this year
journey 18 year January 2020 Shama 18year transgender women was abducted and
brutally raped by nine man in Peshawar.
As
responsible Pakistani citizens have to realize that is not merely a war that
these individuals have to fight, they are same human just like us, they
deserves much right to get good education, good job opportunities, fair and
equal treatment as any other normal community member.
