Mini Dubai? Commonly known as Qasimabad a
highly populated area of Hyderabad, majority of residents are Sindhis.
Qasimabad is known as Mini Dubai because, as Dubai is surrounded with sea area,
Qasimabad is surrounded by slum area. People from different states move to
Dubai for healthy and wealthy life span, in the same way people of interior
Sindh move to Hyderabad for sake of wealthy life span and welcomed by Qasimabad.
Someone comes for sake of education, some come for wealth and some come for
sake of health.
Not so old not new, history of Qasimabad let’s
share with you, when Muhammad Bin Qasim invaded Sindh, Qasimabad was named after
him. After the 1947; People from neighborhoo state entered Sindh got no space, than
an extension created for them, that extension was created in Hyderabad named as
Qasimabad. Qasimabad got popularity, after the dispute of Sindhi Mahajir in 1988.
Sindhis from all over Hyderabad decided to move to Qasimabad, and made it
populated but now you will find each and every cast in Qasimabad.
Qasimabad is called Mini Dubai just because of
expensive markets just like Dubai. Each everything are sold on high rates, no
authorities are able to inquire them. They sell goods on their rates, when they
are been asked “why the rates are so high?” you will get a simple reply “because
it is Imran Khan’s empire”.
Kiryana store, general store, medical,
greengrocer store or pushcart, all are commonly found on Naseem Nagar Chowk or
Main Qasimabad Chowk, but lists provided by government to them are never found.
When we ask them about for the list, they will always show you bye bye wrist
and when they got raid by some authorities, they pay then handsome reward and
get waive off from such authorities.
The reason behind their own generated price
list are, the Elite class of Qasimabad. They don’t even bother to ask the rates,
they not even leave their AC cars just order there drivers or retainer to pick up
the goods from the store. Just because of these Elites of Qasimabad, every
other class, lower, middle or white collar are suffering from the vendors wish
list.

at Naseem Nagar chowk, here you can find Nana walan, Haleem and Biryani stall.
These stalls most probably facilitate the labour class in afternoon hours, who
are working on sights and can’t go for lunch back to their houses. These stalls
are also blessings for those students and bachelors, who are lives in hostel
near Wadhu Wah road. Same Biryani stall,
sales savory snacks like Channa Chat and Pani Puri in evening hours. You can
also see a Pharmacy at the same corners, we talked to the costumers available
at that pharmaceutical store, he said “I use to buy every medicine from this
store this is store is reasonable and used to have all sort of medicine”. Here
you can also see a mobile accessories shop and tea hotel. Which is very famous
in this area, according to customers his tea is good from others.
This is another side of Naseem Nagar chowk,
opposite Wadhu Wah. Here you can see a laboratory of some private hospital. Residence
of areas near to Wadhu Wah road don't need to go far away for any medical tests,
it is a blessing or a gift for them. In the picture you can also see hardware
and paint shop according to the customer “this shop is facility for the
residents of Naseem Nagar and Alamdar Chowk. But it is little bit costly then paint
market in Bori Bazar”. After the paint shop you can see e a restaurant which is
been operated in evening hours. Here u see some barber shops as well as. I
don’t know which one is better but trust me all of them must be having huge
competition.
If we compare Qasimabad market with other
marketa in Hyderabad so it is quite costly than others. Greengrocer market in
Qasimabad was selling ladyfingers for Rs 200kg, Onions Rs.50kg , cabbage Rs.80kg,
Potatoes Rs.40kg but on the other side greengrocer market in
Latifabad unit # 8 was selling vegetables on half rate of it or more than half
in Qasimabad. We talked to one of the vendor at vegetable market unit # 8 we
asked his rates of ladyfingers and potatoes, he said “the ladyfingers are for
Rs.150kg and Potatoes for Rs.20kg”. Isn’t it's surprising that Latifabad market
selling products for half rates of the rates in Qasimabad market.
Not only greengrocery is expensive in Qasimabad
but every sort of stuff, even wholesale market. If you actually looking for
wholesale rates you have to definitely go for Latifabad market or a market in City
area.
Qasimabad is located at west of Hyderabad so in
this way it also nearby Indus river but still people face water issues. Some
areas of Qasimabad are suffering from lack of and some of them get smelly
water. [[While talking to residents of]] Abdullah town about storage of water, so one of resident Mr: Shazaib Channa told us
that “there is no lack of water but yes we face smelly water in are water line supplies by WASA, we
got water boring to meet requirements of freshwater”. Why are residents facing such issues? Where
are the responsibility people of Qasimabad municipal committee?
Hyderabad is the
one of the fast growing city of Pakistan and 2nd largest city of Sindh, were
Qasimabad is most influenced area by the process of urbanization in Hyderabad.
Slums are commonly known as Kachi abadi.
As in the starting I told you our Mini Dubai is surrounded by
slum areas so this is one of slum area at the ead of Qasimabad where army
cantonment limit begins. The water you see is result of sewage drained trough
Wadhu wah, but who care about these IDPs? I believe they might be facing more
problems them Qasimabad.
Due to the high population in Qasimabad,
residents face traffic issues which is commonly known as traffic conjunction.
Traffic injection is come mostly cause by road under constructions which are waiting for more funds
to be released by government so they can completed, but you and me
knows better where does these funds go. So no more comments, move to next issue.
Maximum traffic congestion is caused by
behaviour of drivers. From research it’s clear that 74% of traffic conjunction
is caused by drivers. And 70% traffic conjunction is caused in commercial areas
of Qasimabad.
AccordingAccording to Dawn
newspaper of 7th March 2020; On 12th of
January the protestors, led by the Nazim of the union council Abdul Khaliq
Chandio and leaders of the action committee, called upon the authorities to
solve problems related with sewerage, drainage and roads in the Qasimabad. This
really demanded for RS.100millions from government for the improvements in
local Sewage and drainage system. They also demanded for repair reconstruction
of regular roads and slum areas and small and old villages in Qasimabad but the
interesting thing is that these all road and drainage problems have been
resolved, but only on papers. Not in reality, and are never going.

Library- a reading place or sitting

Library: When one think about this word, he goes directly
into the world of books, knowledge and information. It’s a place where one can
study number of books. And with the help of these books students, scholars,
researchers or anybody can get their answers of all type of questions, whether
their question is about their studies or related to any other information. The
essentials for a library are proper sitting arrangements, multiple study halls
furnished with air-condition and reading friendly environment. In short, it
offers people free excess to a wealth of information that they often can’t find
elsewhere.
Being the second largest city of Sindh, still Hyderabad has
very few libraries. I visited one of its libraries that is very famous by its
name called Shamsul Ulema Daudpota Library. As I entered, I saw many people
sitting in the garden, laying their books on the grass and were having an
informal conversation. I moved forward to enter in the huge reading hall that
was full of books. Thousand of books were all around me. All books were kept in
the book shelves and some research based books were locked in the cupboards. ( how u came to know? source. And to get any book, it’s an obligation on students to ask for permission from
a librarian.
In the second reading hall, a person caught my attention
through his way of arguing with the librarian for his library’s membership
card. He was asking to renew his card so he can easily get new books to study.
But, forgetting where he was standing at the moment, a place where to maintain
silence all the time.
Later, I took an interview of former librarian who had served
in this library for many years. Basically she was a senior librarian there. She
shared her experience with me and some information about this library that how it
was established. She told me that the oldest library of Hyderabad named as
“Shamsul Ulma Daudpota Government Sindh library” was established in October
1961. At the beginning, it was settled in a section of NJV high school Karachi
and after one year it moved to Hyderabad’s Muslim college. In 1965, afterwards
the finalization of its new building, it transferred and regained its position,
which is now in the exercise of Sindh Provincial Museum. In July 1971, the heirs
of doctor Umar Bin Muhmmad Daudpoto, the great scholar of the time, contributed
his collection of books, furniture and other components to this library. This
library has been running placidly under the administration of culture
department because at the time of division of education department, all dominion
of public libraries was moved to the newly founded culture department, government
of Sindh.
I was totally mesmerized by its building structure,
constructed so beautifully and well-furnished both from inside and outside. The
three reading halls, separate sections for CSS candidates, oriental section,
rooms for ladies and children and a canteen was also included in its area.
This library is basically a public library where around 500
to 600 visitors from different cities and villages are always welcome from 9am
to 7pm on working days. Having almost 90,000 collections of books, it provides
books of all genres either in Sindhi, Urdu, English, Arabic or Persian to its
readers. But, the situation is students from different age groups study in the
same library, while the other main cities of Pakistan have specific libraries
for particular ages.
At the end what I observed is, around two to three hundred
readers visit this library on daily basis. But not all the readers are really
concerned with their study goals. They do not truly visit this library to
fulfill their aims. Few of them visit this library to have comfort in an air
conditioned rooms and to enjoy a mind blowing environment. They come to have
some fun and spend their time by doing gup-shups with their friends that causes
disturbance and distraction for others during the study. The noises that these
people create are totally unbearable while studying. Not only in the reading
halls, one can find out in the garden as well one and two groups of people
having tea, talking in loud voices and makes an environment unacceptable for a
person who literally wants to have consideration. There is no proper management
and environment that actually library provides to its readers.
All in all, library is a place of reading but unfortunately
due to the lack of resources and mismanagement, the library has become mere
place of sitting. Majority of students come here for serious study but they
just limited themselves to sit there freely due to the lack of reading-friendly
environment.
