A man who wants cleanliness all around does not run away from dirt. But, he takes time and effort to tidy-up the mess at home or outside.
Whenever you have a chance to visit the Ferozabad Colony of Latifabad unit#12, you will see an amazing sight of a man, wearing a highbred but casual dress code, gathering the wrappers and shoppers from the street and sweeping the dirt.
For the first time, I met this man while having a visit to my new shifted home. I saw him sweeping the dirt from different areas in the same street. For me, it was interesting but strange to see someone, sounding as a noble citizen, but doing a work that is considered to have no dignity.
After investigation, I came to know some engaging and worth-listening information about him.
He is Naeem, a 52-years old green grocer, who is known as a Sanitationist in the street because people always find him taking care about the sanitation of the surroundings.
Getting curious to know him further, I personally decided to visit his home, has so casual look from outside. But, I was stunned after stepping in to the house. In gallery, multiple equipments including brooms, dustpan, dustbins, shovel, sweeping boots, rake, trowel, watering cane, water pipe and wheelbarrow were placed. Further heading towards drawing room, there was not even a single grain of sand on the ground. Each and everything was clean, well-placed and well-decorated. The sight is worth-watching for a visitor, showing his psyche to make everything beautiful and dust-free.
I found him doing dusting of the furniture with a piece of cloth. Seeing a stranger coming towards him, he greeted me and then I introduced myself and told him my reason of visit.
While interviewing him, he said,” Keeping everything clean is in my nature. And because of my habits and practices, some people even call me insane or hygiene and get frustrated. But, I do not mind all these things.” He added his thoughts,” What I believe is that keeping your house and its surroundings clean, keeps you healthy too.”
He does not feel any shame in sweeping the dust, gathering the garbage from the outside of different houses in a wheelbarrow and then throwing it to the waste yard.
Sharing his problems and life-events, he said,” I was always scolded by my elders and siblings about being hygiene since childhood. Then, I got married and I realized that it would not be easy for my wife to bear my all these sanitary exercises. I decided not to ask her to follow me and keep continue my efforts all by myself. But after examining me, she started to do the same. And now, we both are alike. She maintains the cleanliness inside the house and I maintain the sanitation of outside.”
Also, to maintain the neatness of the environment, he planted a number of trees in the street and took care of them all alone. All those plants are now grown up as heavy and big trees, providing shade to the passengers to sit under and to the children, to play easily without having sunburn in afternoon. Due to his efforts, the environment of the street seems healthier, happier and quite different from other ones.
He also receives words of appreciation from his neighboring people and they support him and help him in the times of need whenever there is a dust storm or heavy rain. The children and teens also help him in making the street cleaner.
He is an exemplary role model to follow for the people of all ages due to his services to the society that seem smaller but are most important in actual. Because cleanliness is the matter of education and mindset, so we all should educate ourselves to take care of our environment.
